Mendoza began playing golf at fifteen. Mendoza had an exceptional college career, winning four times during her senior season and earning Conference USA Player of the Year honours. She also appeared in the television show: Big Break: Prince Edward Island on the Golf Channel in the US.  Mendoza secured her 2011 LPGA Tour card via an 11th place finish on the Futures Tour money list in 2010. That campaign was highlighted by six top 10 finishes in 17 starts, including two runner-ups.
