Arch Support
The arch of the foot is between the heel and the ball of the foot. The shape of the support is built up on the insole in such a way that it supports the arch, distributing the body weight over a greater area during standing and walking. This reduces weight on the heel and ball of the foot.

Biom
Biom is the result of the ECCO Biom project into the natural motion of walking and running. The human foot has evolved as a natural shock absorber, with its 26 bones, 32 muscles and tendons and 107 ligaments; the pronating motion of the foot as been tuned by nature for walking and running. ECCO Biom is designed to enable the foot to move in the most natural way possible, allowing the foot to get stronger. ECCO Biom shoes combine the results of the Biom Project with ECCOs philosophy of "Following the Foot," they have all the hallmarks of ECCO shoes - lightness, flexibility, durability and outstanding quality.

Cambrelle
A material for the lining of shoes and for insoles. Cambrelle® is very 'thirsty' and highly porous it can absorb three times its own weight in moisture. It dries out quickly and allows air to circulate, so that your feet stay dry and comfortable all day long. Cambrelle® is used, for example, in ECCO's outdoor products.

Cleats
Cleats, or Spikes, supply extra traction for the golfer. Most cleats are made of green friendly and flexable PU or TPU: all ECCO golf shoes are fitted with these types of cleats. There are 3 main types of fitting systems used, Q-Lok, Fast Twist and Screw fit. Cleats need to be fitted using a hand cleat key.

Fitting cleats. After removal of a cleat make sure recepticle is clean.
Warning: never use any form of power tool to remove or replace cleats.

Q-Lok - To Remove: using a hand key, apply downward pressure and turn counterclockwise one quarter turn. To Insert: place cleat into receptacle by hand, using the hand key, apply downward pressure and turn clockwise one quarter turn, cleat will lock into place.

Fast Twist - To Remove: Using a hand key, turn counterclockwise until the cleat comes out. To Insert: thread the cleat in by hand , then using the hand key turn the cleat clockwise until the cleat clicks twice, locking into place.

Screw fit - To Remove: using a hand key turn counterclockwise until cleat comes out. To Insert: thread the cleat in by hand, clockwise and then tighten using hand key. Do not over tighten the cleat. We recommend that you carry spare cleats and a cleat key in your golf bag.

CFS - Comfort Fibre System
CFS is the bottom layer of ECCO's removable insoles. The top layer can be made of leather, Poliyou®, or a combination of leather and textile. A material specially developed by ECCO to promote improved foot comfort.  It has good air circulation. The material is open-celled, i.e. a pump effect is produced during walking that increases the supply of fresh air to the feet, enabling them to stay fresh. It also has an anti-bacterial effect. The material neutralises the bacteria occurring in moisture and sweat, reducing any possible odour. The shock-absorbing effect protects the lumbar region, coccyx and spinal column. The material is also soft and follows the contours of the foot when walking. It is a durable material so that it does not lose its shape or special effect as a result of use. It is also recyclable.

Direct Injection Moulding
This method of sole attachment is used on the majority of shoes in the ECCO range either as single or double density polyurethane. It can be injected in various densities and combinations e.g. PU/PU or TPU/PU. Direct injection moulding creates a water tight and secure to uppers bonding.

ECCO
The world's most comfortable brand of shoe! Characterised by footwear design that always embodies product advantages to make walking a sheer pleasure.ECCO was founded in 1963 by entrepreneur Karl Toosbuy and is one of the largest produces of casual shoes in the world. ECCO controls the entire process of shoe manufacture, from sourcing of materials through to finial production. ECCO is still a family owned company and is moving forward with technical, material and style innovation to bring you the world's most comfortable shoes.

GHI
Gore-Tex®
A high-tech material that is 100% waterproof, whilst still allowing moisture from the foot to pass through. With the aid of modern technology, ECCO has succeeded in manufacturing completely waterproof footwear, which still allows the foot to breathe. The principle underlying Gore-Tex® is that drops of water cannot penetrate the membrane, where as water vapour (perspiration) can escape.

Hydromax™
A form of leather treatment specially developed by ECCO. Hydromax™ leathers have long lasting water resistance, whilst allowing the feet to breathe. After becoming wet, allow Hydromax leather boots and shoes to dry out fully and naturally at room temperature to maintain there water resistance. The Hydromax™ process also helps leather retain its smooth appearance and soft feel.

Insole
The inside of the shoe on which the sole of the foot rests. Both Comfort Fibre System and Poliyou® insoles can be ordered separately. ECCO recommends that you have at least one extra pair of insoles so that you can change them every day, thereby allowing the pair just used to "rest" for 24 hours. During that time they will give off any moisture and be completely ready for re-use.

Last
The form around which the shoe is shaped. The last is one of the most important tools in shoe manufacture since it is crucial to the final fit.

Leather
ECCO produces its own leather and we operate our own tanneries, thus ensuring the highest quality of leather is used in our shoes. Leather is an ideal upper material being light, strong and breathable.

Lining
The inside of the upper can be lined in a verity of materials, the most common ones being leather, or textile. Other materials used by ECCO include, felt and neoprene.

Midsole
The midsole is the area between the insole and the outsole. It is typically made of very light, soft material, such as PU and has a very good shock absorbing effect.

Nubuck
Is a full grained leather which has been sanded to give a distinctive, slightly roughened surface. It has the same benefits as leather. Over time Nubuck can "polish" back to its smooth state, to prevent this and to keep your nubuck shoes in top condition ECCO recommend cleaning with either an ECCO Nubuck Brush or Eraser then applying ECCO Nubuck/Suede Conditioner

PQR
PU - Polyurethane
This is used on the majority of shoes in the ECCO range and results in a watertight sole, which is very durable and abrasion resistant or a Midsole, which is soft, shock absorbing and cradles the feet. PU has a memory so it will never loose its shape.

Poliyou®
A material that is used in the special ECCO Poliyou® insoles. The sole can be washed, is antibacterial and quick drying. It allows air to circulate, keeping the feet at a pleasant temperature.

STU
Shank
The shank helps to stiffen the sole and arch, providing the foot with good stability and support.

Spikeless
Golf shoes without cleats on the sole, but with an enhanced tread pattern. Designed mainly for use on dry and summer courses.

TPU - Thermo Polyurethane
TPU is a sole material which can be injected as a clear, transparent or coloured unit without yellowing. TPU is flexible and 20% harder wearing that standard PU and can be moulded thinner than PU. This unique material combines lightness, strength and flexibility.

Uppers
The stitched upper part of the shoe. In the Biom range of ECCO shoes the uppers are either Yak leather, leather, or textile.

Yak
Used as uppers on some of the ECCO Biom range of shoes. Yak leathers are supple and strong, up to three times stronger than normal leather. Yak leather has a natural, rugged appearance and as such many show markings. ECCO Yak leather is supplied only from farmed Yaks and its production is strictly controlled.
